(1586-1658), came to Massachusetts from England in 1630 as Assistant to Winthrop. He began the settlement of Watertown, but returned to England in 1631. He was a patentee of Connecticut, and sent a vessel to take possession of the territory. He wrote letters of remonstrance to John Cotton and John Wilson in regard to the persecution of persons for their religious convictions.
