The v. occupied by a molecule of a substance in the gaseous state. At the ordinary conditions of temperature and pressure the m. v. of all chemical compounds is 22.4 liters. In the gaseous state, and under equal conditions of temperature and pressure, the molecular v's are the same for all substances, and are equal to the molecular weights divided by the specific gravity referred to hydrogen as a unit.
