A French-American essayist and political writer; born in France, 1801; died 1847. He was son of Joachim Murat, king of Naples, and hence prince of the Two Sicilies. Coming to this country in 1821, he settled at Tallahassee, Fla., where he was mayor 1824, and postmaster 1826-28. He wrote in French "Essays Moral and Political on the United States of America"; "Exposition of the Principles of Republican Government as Perfected in America", the latter running through over fifty editions.
