A noted German theologian; born at Strasburg (then a part of France), July 18, 1804; died there, April 15, 1891. He was made professor in the college of his native city, and published: "A History of the Books of the New Testament" (1842); "History of the Christian Religion in the Apostolic Age" (1872); "A History of the Books of the Old Testament" (1881); and others. Was co-editor of Calvin's Works.
