A root, obtained from the East Indies, in irregular slices of various forms; some cut transversely, others longitudinally. It is an aromatic bitter, and is consequently tonic and stimulant. It was once considered a panacea, and has been referred to Zingiber Cassumuniar, Z. Clifford'ia seu purpu'reum, Amo'mum monta'num, and to Zingiber Zerumbet seu spu’rium, Amo'mum Zerumbet seu sylves'tre.
